LEARNING FROM ACCIDENTS

This website is mainly about to "how to set up a safety management system?" To reach desired safety objectives, that is a good start. However, such a management system has to be improved  continuously. There are two main instruments to improve your management system :

bulletlearn from the undesired events that take place
bulletcarry out (internal) audits to verify whether your management system activities are being carried out properly

I am making separate websites addressing those issues and the first one is on "Learning From Accidents". Through this website I hope to interest you in the software product that I am involved in through SafetyPort (see logo below). But apart  from that, I will fill that website with information that is relevant when setting up a "learning form accidents" system.

SSVV

At present I am doing some free-lance work in relation to the accredited safety certification system for contractors that exists in The Netherlands (and Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland). The Dutch system is called VCA and it is used by companies to help select their contractors. I was involved in the development of it between 1989 and 1994. It started in the chemical/oil industry as an effort to improve the safety performance of their contractors but has meanwhile spread to other industries. Now there are close to 10.000 certificates issued by about 25 certification bodies under the supervision of the Dutch Council for Accreditation RvA. My work is to assist the Committee of Experts in upgrading the system and to secure its quality level. More information about this VCA system can be found on the website of SSVV which is the (industrial) foundation that has been set up for this - just click on the website below.

THE principle of MANAGEMENT RESULTS

"A manager tends to secure most effective results - through and with others - by performing the management work of planning, organizing, leading and controlling."
