3.2. Projects

Often in an organization, there are projects that are either are directed at solving problems or at  obtaining a specific objective. For example, a major client may be lost , or an explosion may occur. Or a product liability claim. Or - on the positive side - plans are to introduce a new product, or a new system for equipment inspection. Or the objective may be to obtain certain desired behavior of people in their working environment. Or to obtain an ISO 14001 certificate.

In most of these cases project teams are set up to solve the problem or to obtain the goals. Most of the time, these projects contain elements - activities or areas of attention - that are not just one-shot events but need to be there for an extensive period of time, maybe even "for ever". These are the things that need to be considered for pacing in the management system and so the relation is there between the projects (with a well-defined end date) and the management system (which probably will be there for a long time).

A number of examples will be given that will demonstrate the relation between projects ("single use plans") and the management system ("standing plan").

These projects also address areas that are considered relevant to the management of risk. They may therefore assist you more in-depth when dealing with the related issues, should you encounter such in your organization. Should you wish additional information on any of these projects, you may want to contact me. I may either be able to help you myself or direct you to an additional information source.

THE principle of MANAGEMENT RESULTS

"A manager tends to secure most effective results - through and with others - by performing the management work of planning, organizing, leading and controlling."
