Risk Management, Safety Management and Loss Control Topves 4.1.1.08 Process - Activity selection The base-line assessment of step 7 will provide management with a good picture of where the organization is are, step 8 is to select specific activities to be included in the Management System. This is "what" needs to be done. Most likely all activities that are desired to be included in the management system will not be part of the first action plan, after all resources have their limitations and a good decision is to built the total system over a period of say 3 - 5 years. A selection will therefore have to be made and those activities will most likely be part of the first action plan. Those will be the activities that are most relevant in relation to control of risk and that also have motivational value in the sense that they will have the greatest possibilities of visual success within a short period of time. Such activities may include: preparation for emergencies, planned inspections, problem/incident investigation, group and personal communications and task analysis, as well as: engineering controls, purchasing of goods and services and selection and placement of personnel and the management of contractors. Purpose of this step is the selection of activities (or system "elements") to be part of the first action plan (the beginning of the development of the Management system), based on perceived effectiveness and on "visibility" of these elements.
