Risk Management, Safety Management and Loss Control Topves 4.1.1.03. Process - Project Improvement Team (PIT) Coordination at the top of the organization provides for the high level power source that is required to get the improvement process started and on its way to success. This is the team that will set the strategy and steer the process. This team will lead and support, decide on main actions to be taken, evaluate progress and stimulate the entire organization to the desired level of excellence. Here the team can be pro-active to identify, evaluate and control to-morrows problems. An important function of the PIT is also to periodically review Management System implementation in relation to expected result and to stimulate the process of continuous improvement. The PIT should include people with relevant organization authorities, proper expertise and worker representation as appropriate. Although the PIT may focus on risk management or safety, it really is steering a major improvement process in the organization. As such it will gain obtain very valuable experience that can also be used for other improvement purposes, it would just have to re-direct its focus. The PIT will be a team that will probably be there for ever, in line with the ever expanding horizon of business excellence.
