Risk Management, Safety Management and Loss Control

3.1.0. Platform Model - Performance level

Being able to indicate the performance level is an important as you want to know where you are and where you want to be.

Below some indicators are provided by which the performance level concerning risk control, health, safety and environment can be measured and evaluated.

I have not tried to be explicit and I am sure that you will be able to come up with a number of other indicators that are not on my list.

I have tried to arrange these indicators in three categories: before the undesired event, during the event and after it. But I have not placed them in any order of importance.

Before the event indicators could include:

bulletemployee opinion survey results
bulletbehavior observation reports
bulletinspection reports
bulletrisk analysis results (potential for losses)
bulletmanagement system audits

During the event indicators could include:

bulletnear-miss incident rates/reports
bulletbehavior observation reports
bulletinspection reports

After the event indicators could include:

bulletvarious injury rates (frequency/severity)
bulletmaterial damage rates
bulletmaintenance reports (abnormal/normal)
bulletinsurance claims
bulletabsenteeism rates
bulletopinion polls - neighbors
bulletclient complaints
bulletenvironmental incident rates

You noticed that I mentioned some indicators twice - just to indicate that you could place them in either category, depending what you consider the unwanted event. Anyway, there are many indicators so if you run out of injuries (ref. lost time injury or LTI frequency) , try some of the others for further improvement

THE principle of MANAGEMENT RESULTS

"A manager tends to secure most effective results - through and with others - by performing the management work of planning, organizing, leading and controlling."
